—A 45year old woman provided Sue with a history of co-dependency, poor diet, poor self care and smoking/ETOH addiction. In 2.5 months (2-3 sessions per week) she was eating 5 small meals a day, doing yoga, quit an abusive relationship, decreased her desire for ETOH and stopped smoking. She also started and resumed therapy with an addiction counselor with my encouragement. She felt more “centered”, relaxed and was sleeping soundly. Her own dietary changes were the most impressive, at least to her. She was eating fresh fruits and vegetables and eliminated most of the snack/junk foods. She and her son were also enjoying a better relationship. She was also excited because she consciously took deep breathes instead of breathing shallow. -A 15 year old girl after 24 sessions over a 3 month period, stated that she felt like a new person. Her training started in the spring and by the next fall, she was no longer in special education classes and was less impulsive. Her counsellor was commending her at every session about her behavior towards peers, parents and herself. Her counselor also told the parents that she was surprised at how fast her symptoms associated with reactive attachment disorder and attention deficit disorder disappeared. Her counselor and adoptive parents were very impressed with her changes. She was excited because now she was getting C’s and B’s in school. -An adult client with ADD reported after her third session, a sudden lifting in her depression. She went on to say that everything seemed different without that “cloud” around her. After another 6 sessions, she made a remark that now she knew what organization looked like. She had never been able to perceive how to organize a task or process before. Symptoms related to ADD continued to resolve with additional training. -Another client with a diagnosis of depression since early adulthood, was able to taper off her medications slowly with the help of her psychologist and psychiatrist. She now is off medications and consults with her psychologist as she needs. She also “complains” that she no longer drinks as much alcohol and is more confident in social and business situations. -A professional counsellor suffering from burnout, first noticed that she was able to relax more. Her symptoms related to burnout slowly resolved with training. -A professional with the diagnosis of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder related to a history of physical and mental abuse during her marriage was referred for Neurofeedback training. Following 9 sessions she noticed many changes in her ability to work in her profession, organizational skills and chronic pain areas were minimal. She also noticed that as a single parent she was calmer and less reactive to her kids. Her training and changes continue. Sue’s story: She used neurofeedback training on two different occasions. The most recent was about 2 years ago. Following several personal challenges; Sue experienced a moderate case of burnout, the first year in menopause, was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and was in arbitration with her home. She did neurofeedback training with herself (3-2 times per week). Her symptoms of burnout slowly resolved, her need for synthroid went away and her hot flashes decreased in frequency and intensity. All have reported subtle changes that they almost missed. The changes occurred gradually during their training. The changes were related to behaviors, moods, or learning behaviors. |
